AIMF moves EC over poll code violations by Nitish Kumar

sm-asif-picNEW DELHI, 08 September, 2020 - The All India Minority Front (AIMF) has approached the Chief Election Commissioner of India seeking action against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar alleging he violated the model code of conduct during webinar rallies.

SM Asif, the party chief requested the Election Commission to decide on complaints against Nitish Kumar within 24 hours. Asif said in his letter to EC that the Bihar CM made “hate speeches” at campaign rallies. They also talked about the boundary wall of mandir and kabristan in a public meeting despite the poll body’s ban, he said.

“Nitish Kumar and his government are misusing government funds and resources to ensure victory in the Bihar Assembly elections,” Mr Asif said in a statement after he formally lodged a complaint with the Election Commission.

The AIMF chief said the Nitish Kumar government through a webinar and TV campaign was trying to influence voters, which is an “open violation of the Model Code of Conduct”.
According to Mr Asif, the EC announced the date of elections to the  Bihar Assembly election while the chief minister launched various campaigns in the state.
